Sorry, we haven't written in the blog for so long but we have some bad news to share with you all.
We lost our great friend Carl - A champion, an Aussie, and our mate. He passed away in Australia on the 3rd of May.
We were shocked and extremely saddened at the sudden loss of one of the greatest mates that we have ever had. Carl died as the result of a tragic accident. He lost his balance whilst sitting on a balcony railing and falling 3 floors. He was 27 years old, far too young to be taken away from us, his friends in Aus, and his family.
I tried to contact everyone who knew Carl to tell them about the accident(I`m sorry to those of you I couldn`t or didn`t contact).
After everyone heard the terrible news the bar was flooded by people who wanted to leave personal messages on two flags that were of great significance in Carl's life - an Aussie and a Japanese flag. Both these flags were later presented to Carl's parents.
Haydn made a memorial DVD of Carl with lots of his pictures that were brought to the bar by Carl's friends, this was also presented to Carls parents. The DVD is brilliant.
Due to shock and misbelief it was hard for a lot of people to show their emotions but after watching the DVD everyone I know, cried. You can watch the DVD on YOU TUBE under the headline Our Mate Carl.
Haydn made the DVD in 24hours, an amazing feat considering the circumstances. (if you want to watch it at the bar, just ask the Aussie Bar staff.)
Lee, Rohde and myself went to Australia for the funeral.(Mick, K , Olav, Yoko, Garth, Etsuko, and Ryan were also there, coming from all different parts of Australia to attend.) The funeral was a very fitting affair considering how much Carl was loved by everyone he knew. People came from England, Holland, Singapore and of course Japan to pay their respects to our mate Carl.
We met with Kai, she seemed to be holding up well given the circumstances that were suddenly thrown upon her.
After coming back to Japan, we had a memorial service for Carl at Kourakuen Gardens on the 12th of May. We met at the bar for a chat and a few drinks and then headed up to the park. About ten of us said a few last words that we wanted to say and then we floated a wreath into Asahi river, praying that Carl will forever rest in peace. Thanks to everyone that came on that Sunday, a day that will always be remembered by all that were there.
In reflection, hearing the bells ring at the funeral, was a sign of Carl's rebirth. We all know that he will be alive somewhere within us for the rest of our time.
So, shed no more tears and know that we will always be with him and more importantly, he will always be with us.
